nipples, Quickly, + The Three of Us

poems by Evyan Roberts

nipples

my boyfriend
opened wide and
laughed with thin
lipped friends about
womens oblong areolas.

cooed with gently rounded
mouths about preferred puffy
nipples, and “yucked” their way

through the despised, bumpy ones.
those like mine. i was invisible, sitting
beside him, with no breasts worthy of

shielding from his curt discussion. the boy
who came inside me, while constantly nibbling
at my breasts, was using his mouth to laugh at me.
at other women whom i didn't know, ones i did.
but they've pressed their lips to to them; the

hated, the complex, the adored, and begged
for more. prayed to them in time to women
they’ve convinced to be lovers. a sort of

turned down smile appears on my face,
walking to his room. waiting for
him to beg with a mouth, full
of my self.

Quickly

her lips and tongue, her hands
swimming through goosebumps

i miss them all
we knew each other so well

we became too close
as if her tongue and lips
danced together
to say my name for decades

as if her hands cupped them both
tunneling words to my ear,
cradling my name, for years

only mine to hear, those words
building their statement piece
on my skin

The Three of Us

lick your sweating palms, hands out
prove your warm, meet eyes

lock expectations. too sweet,
too bright. smile for them

laugh at jokes, smile for them
lick their palms, proof you're present

lock eyes with that couple, slip a smile
at their touch. go home dreaming of hands.

sweaty tastes, dirty nails.
uninterested memories, turn to imagination.
